Join us on World Sight Day to find out about our ongoing curation project at UniProt to annotate proteins involved in eye development and disease.

Globally around 2.2 billion people have a near or distance vision impairment, of whom at least 1 billion have a condition that could have been prevented or is yet to be treated (WHO World report on vision 2019). One of the many curation efforts at UniProt aims to support biomedical research into eye health and treatment, by focusing on curating proteins in human and model organisms that have an involvement in eye formation, maintenance and/or health.

This webinar will demonstrate how we selected these proteins, then collected, interpreted, and integrated information from a range of sources to provide comprehensive and high-quality overview of their sequence and functional information. It will also discuss how we also annotate photoreceptor cell and eye proteins in non-human organisms to help scientists understand common components and regulatory mechanisms that underly the formation and maintenance of visual systems.

This webinar is part of a series covering various aspects of UniProt, view other upcoming webinars here
